About Margaret Oakes
Margaret Ann Oakes, 80, was born on February 15, 1938 in Bakersfield to Howard and Carol (Herrera) Wheeldon. She attended General Shafter and Bakersfield High. She earned her bachelor's degree from Fresno State. Margaret began teaching in the fall of 1961 at Lakeside School. This would be the only school she would teach at for the next 38 years. She loved her Lakeside staff and students. Margaret married her true love, Wayland Oakes, June 19, 1962. They were married for 51 years until his death in 2013. Margaret loved traveling with Wayland while he was coaching girls' softball, and was most happy watching her daughter and grandchildren compete in sports. Margaret was preceded in death: by her parents, Howard and Carol, her husband, Wayland, and her aunts, Lupe Ramirez and Delores Johnson. She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Nieblas (Toby), grandchildren Mackenzie Johnson (Christian), Spencer Nieblas and Isabelle Nieblas. She is also survived by her two special cousins, Denise Hicks and Debbie Ramirez and sister in law Lawanda Beene, along with her best friends, Phila Casey and Stacey Curschman. Funeral services for Margaret Ann Oakes will be Friday, December 14 at 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church.
