Margaret Calderon

Margaret Calderon formerly of Trinidad Colorado passed away quietly at 9:00 p.m. on Friday March 11th, 2023, at Crossroads Senior Living in Northglenn Colorado at the age of 99. Margaret was surrounded by her children and their spouses at the time of her passing. Margaret was born February 23, 1924, to Reyesitas Vigil in Tercio Colorado. Margaret was the youngest sibling of seven and she spent her early years attending Tercio Mining Camp Schoolhouse. Margaret later moved to Starkville Colorado and was a member of the YWCA in her teen years. Margaret met Joe Calderon and they fell in love prior to his enlisting in the U.S. Navy during World War II. They were married on December 14th, 1945, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church after Joe's honorable discharge from the service. They remained devoted to each other for over 66 years up until Joe's passing in 2011. Margaret was a devoted wife and caring mother who, together with her husband Joe, raised four children to be respectful caring individuals. Margaret worked as a homemaker and was an active member of the PTA. She also worked during election time for her local precinct. Margaret was a gifted seamstress who enjoyed sewing as well as crafting and she could often be found downstairs in her sewing room. She also enjoyed getting together with their friends to conversate and play Tripoli. Margaret most enjoyed herself when she would go dancing with Joe every Saturday night except during Lent. She would often brag that she taught her husband how to dance. Both Margaret and Joe were devout Catholics and rarely missed Sunday Morning mass at Holy Trinity. Margaret is survived by her four children, Don (Betty) Calderon of Thornton, CO; Richard (Teri) Calderon of Chandler, AZ; Margie (Cordell) Herrera of Pueblo, CO; Ron (Tim) Calderon Dillard of Thornton, CO. Grandchildren: Russell Calderon (Jenn Nuxoll) of Centralia, IL; Shelley Calderon of Thornton, CO; Heather Coberly (Jared Sullivan) of Trinidad, CO; Kevin Calderon of Thornton, CO; Justin (Stephanie) Herrera of Pueblo, CO. Great-Grandchildren: Russell (Casey) Yokum of Peoria, AZ; Solei Ilia Calderon of Tucson, AZ; Sydney and Brookelyn Coberly of Trinidad, CO; Jayden, Bryson and Wesley Herrera of Pueblo, CO. Great-Great-Granddaughter: Sofia Yokum of Peoria, AZ. Thee nieces, two nephews and other family members. Margaret is preceded in death by her Mother Reyesitas Vigil, Husband Joseph Calderon, Mother- In-Law Ninfa Espinoza, Three Brothers, Three Sisters, Nieces, Nephews and other family members. Pallbearers are her Grandchildren, Great-Grandson and Jared Sullivan with Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great Granddaughter serving as Honorary Pallbearers. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Comi Funeral Home. The Public viewing will be held on Thursday March 23rd from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Comi Funeral Home. The Rosary is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Friday March 24th at Comi Funeral Home with Mass following at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment in the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery will follow the Mass.
