About Margaret Abate
Margaret Elizabeth Abate, 87, of Freeport, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 15, 2008. She was born May 6, 1921, in Atascadero, Calif., the daughter of Walter L. And Clara B. (Gaylord) Judd. She was a 1963 graduate of Freeport High School. She and Sam Abate were married on July 26, 1941, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Freeport. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church. Margaret is survived by her husband, Sam, of Freeport; her son, Mark (Mary) Abate of Seward; her grandchildren, Ann (Douglas) Parker of S. Milwaukee, Wis., James Abate and Joseph (Josi) Abate, both of Pecatonica; six grandchildren; and a nephew, Scott Gillespie of Portland, Ore. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Peter A. Abate; and her sister, Eva B. Gillespie. The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Father Ariel Valencia officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at the church until the time of service. A memorial has been established in her memory.
