About Madeline Piciullo

Madeline R Licastro was born in the Greenpoint Hospital in Brooklyn on 8/4/1936 to George, Olga & brother Joseph. When she was in her teens the family moved to Queens, where she met her future husband Gennaro (Jerry). He lived next door to her cousins. Madeline worked in NYC at the Wildworth Company in the Lincoln Bldg. she commuted to work by subway, where Jerry would always be there to pick her up. Madeline & Jerry were married at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ozone Park, Queens 12/11/1960. It snowed 17 inches on their wedding day which she always said was lucky. She was now Mrs. Madeline Piciullo. The newlyweds set up home in Richmond Hill, Queens. They only stayed there for a few years, before moving to Long Island in 1963, First to North Great River, next to East Islip. Madeline & Jerry were blessed with five children; Anthony, Mary, Joseph, Gennaro (Jerry) & Thomas. They all attended and graduated from St. Mary School. Madeline was involved at St. Mary's Yard Mother, Bingo Kitchen & the Rosary Alter Society. Madeline & Jerry had a family business called The Village Washery in Port Jefferson. It was a true family affair. Not only did they do laundry, it was also an antique store. Madeline worked at The Village Washery on Wednesday and Saturdays, so Jerry could shop for goods to sell in the store. During the summers & college days their children worked in the store. As Madeline always stated she was their union. Most of the family moved to New Port Richey, Florida in February 1985. At the same time, they also purchased a small house in Sayville for there to eldest children to live & to have a place to stay when they were in New York. It turns out Madeline hated Florida. They were back in New York full time by July 1986. Sayville became they family's new home base. Madeline loved to host all the Holiday's. Even as the family grew, she insisted on hosting & preparing the entire meal. Madeline showed her love thru her cooking & sending food to anyone in need. She had the ability to whip up an entire meal with the ingredient's she had in the pantry. While living in Sayville Madeline was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She had surgery, Chemo & Radiation. She put her trust in the Lord & the Blessed Mother to get her thru. She was cancer free for 5 years. When she was diagnosed with Colon Cancer. This diagnosis proved more difficult than the Breast Cancer. She had to have several surgeries, Chemo & Radiation. Again, she relied on her faith to get her thru. Madeline is a two-time Cancer Survivor. During this time, she was helping to raise her granddaughter, Felicia. She gave her a solid foundation for life. Madeline & Jerry were blessed with 8 grandchildren, (4 Boys & 4 Girls) and 3 Great Grandchildren (2 Boys & 1 Girl). The next move was to Patchogue. Patchogue was now the new family home base. She hosted every holiday; Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Easter, Memorial Day, July Forth & Labor Day. Even though she was getting older she would not relinquish the cooking duties. During the Pandemic life really slowed down. Madeline was staying home more & more as not to contract Covid-19. Sadly, the family gatherings had slowed down too. Madeline stayed in touch with every one with her phone calls. "HI THIS IS YOUR MOTHER CALLING." In the past few years, the world moved quicker and quicker but Madeline had a kernel of wisdom that would anchor her no matter the situation. She loved to say "God Bless Posted on website of Robertaccio Funeral Homes Patchogue, New York.
