About Lucien Blackwell
U.S. Congressman. With the advent of the Korean War, he joined the U.S. Army, serving (1953-54) and was a boxing champion during his years in the Army. Later he was a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representative, (1973-75), president of Local 1332, International Longshoremen’s Association, (1973-1991) and a member of the Philadelphia City Council, 1974-91), In 1991, he was elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Second Congress by special election to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative William H. Gray, III and reelected to the nest succeeding Congress, serving until 1995. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he remained a strong advocate in support for the Democratic Party until his death at age 71.
