Lois Ileen Basthemer

VERONA - Lois Ileen Basthemer, age 95, of Verona, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023, at Four Winds Lodge. She was born on July 4, 1928, in Dodgeville, Wis., the daughter of Jennie Mae (Ranney) and Ila Leonard Leigh. Lois attended and received her diploma from Mount Horeb High School. She married Walter Basthemer on May 14, 1944, in Verona, Wis. Lois farmed with her husband from 1944 to 1972. She also worked as a clerk at various businesses until her retirement. In her free time, she loved to knit and embroider. She also enjoyed bowling, reading, doing any kind of puzzle, skeet-shooting, square dancing, and ceramics. She was an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan. Lois was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mount Horeb where she taught Sunday School and was a member of Rebecca Circle. Lois is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Stephen) Gavin, Sandra (Lavern) Stenner and Charlene Simonson; eight grandchildren, Tamara (Patrick) Johnson, Jason (Alisha) Cook, Joshua (Helena) Cook, Brian Stenner, Kevin Stenner, Will (Sara) Simonson and Mike (Jenny) Simonson and Austen Basthemer; seven great-grandchildren; five nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Basthemer Sr.; two sons, Walter Basthemer Jr. and Leigh Basthemer; and sister, Lorane Grupe. A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON CAMACHO MOUNT HOREB FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 500 N. Eighth St., Mount Horeb, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, with Pastor Jared Parmley presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Burial will follow at the Mount Horeb Union Cemetery.
