Capt. Lewis A. Abbott Jr., 65, of Troy, Ill, born Aug. 7, 1943, in Granite City, Ill. died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, in Cumberland City, Tenn. He was a river boat captain for more than 40 years currently with Hunter Marine and veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis A. and Claudine, nee Thomas, Abbott Sr.; a son, Danny Whitford; and three grandchildren, Brian Allison, Cassandra Walker and Jonathan Carrillo. Surviving are his loving wife of 32 years, Ellen, nee Dalpiaz, Abbott of Troy, Ill.; his children, Sheryl (Bill) Coston of Bridgeport, Texas, Robert (Kathy) Whitford of Mascoutah, Ill., Rita (Joe) Purcell of Altamon, Ill., Terrie (Keith) Allison of Marissa, Ill., Patty (Stephen) Raynes of New Hampshire., Beverly (Terry) Knoth of Belleville, Ill., Roger Moist of Troy, Ill., Brent (Andrea) Abbott of St. Libory, Ill., and Wendy (Richard) Emig of Mascoutah, Ill.; 26 grandchildren, (loving and cherished grandchildren, Kurt Moist of Indiana, Dustin Moist of Troy, Ill., Kyle Moist of Troy, Ill, and Nathan Moist of St. Libory, Ill.); many great-grandchildren (loving and cherished great-grandchild, Kailey Allison of Highland, Ill); a brother, Tim (Jane) Abbott of Swansea, Ill; and two sisters, Barb (Richard) Amann of Belleville, Ill, and Joyce Harvey of Belleville, Ill. Lewis was a dear brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many. He will be dearly be missed by all who knew him. Memorials are appreciated to the Salvation Army and the Belleville Area Humane Society. Visitation: Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Ill. Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Lake View Funeral Home. Interment will be held in The Lake View Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Fairview Heights, Ill.
