Arend, age 74, of Rockwood, Michigan, died at the Sinai-Grace Hospice Center the evening of October 16th, 2012 after a hard fought 17 year battle with cancer. Leland was originally from Findlay, Ohio. Beloved husband of Diana Li Yeh Wu. Loving father of Ann (Alex) Arend Remmers and Catherine (Jon) Arend Metzger. Also survived by his grandchildren, Madelyn and Mathew Remmers; his sisters, Leona (the late Carl) Julian and Ruthann (Ronald) Gulliford. Preceded in death by his father Clarence, mother Ida, and brothers, Lowell and Lester Arend. Also preceded in death by his beloved canine friends, Buster and Snapper. Lee proudly served in the United States Army for 24 years, including five tours in the Vietnam War. He retired as a Sergeant Major with military honors in 1980. Following his military service, he continued his love of aviation as an aircraft mechanic for Eastern Airlines and later Northwest Airlines. In 2006 he was the recipient of the FAA's Charles Taylor "Master Mechanic" Award recognizing 50 years of service in aircraft maintenance. Lee's big personality will be missed dearly by family and friends. A viewing will be held on Friday, October 19th at Ford Chapel in Rockwood, Michigan from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary prayer at 2:30 p.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Rockwood, Michigan on Saturday, October 20th at 8:30 a.m. followed by internment in St. Michael's Cemetery in Maple Grove, Findlay, Ohio at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to attend the viewing, Mass and internment followed by a luncheon at the Knights of Columbus, Findlay.
