Lee Richard Pool

Pool, Lee R. Age 84, passed away peacefully, although unexpectedly, on August 8, 2015. Born in Zeeland, MI, Lee was predeceased by his parents, Wilhelmina and Robert Pool, daughter, Kathryn, brother, John Pool, and sister, Helen Pool. He is survived by his wife, Jeannine, his sons, Robert and David, his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jacqueline Pool, sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Edwin Kaminskas, step children, Vickie and Kevin Warren, Greg and Patrice Lankfer, Steve Lankfer, and his nephews and nieces, Ruth Dantuma, Joan Glennon, Deborah Sterken, Jayne Schuitema, Marilyn Andreasson, Jonathan Pool, Stephen Pool, Eric Kaminskas, Mary Anne Habekovic, and Christina Schlaps. He graduated from Holland Christian High School and Calvin College, and in 1956 received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. Following his residency at Butterworth Hospital, he spent 40 years as a surgeon in Grand Rapids. After retiring from surgery, he continued to work as a physician for Lacks Industries, focusing on industrial medicine. When Lee was 14 years old he made a pinhole camera, an experience that marked the beginning of his life-long love of photography. During every season of the year he traveled around Michigan, often on remote country roads, to photograph streams, magnificent trees, and tiny and intricate wildflowers. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 1:00 pm at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St. SE. Visitation will be held at the funeral chapel on Tuesday 5 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions in Lee's memory may be made to the Pool Family Scholarship Fund at Calvin College, Grand Rapids, MI.
