About Lawrence Hunt

Lawrence "Larry" Hunt loved life and he lived it on his own terms. From the time he was a little boy he longed to be outside, to feel the sun on his face, the grass beneath his feet, and the wind upon his back. His face brightened anytime he could be at one with nature. He truly enjoyed all the natural wonders God placed before him. An avid hunter and fisherman, few could compare with him. He belonged to the woods, he was as much a part of it as the animals he hunted. Full of energy, not too big, and talkative, it was truly fitting that he gained the nickname "Cat Squirrel", or if you knew him really well... simply Squirrel. Laughter filled the air whenever Larry visited with friends and family; especially his DOT family. Over his 41 years of service with the DOT, his ever present smile and easy nature made it easy to become his friend, and once you were his friend, it was for life. The love he had for his work family and the love they had for him is a testament to how great a man he was. From the woods to the many roads he oversaw, Larry left behind an indelible mark. We can find comfort in memories of Squirrel's inviting smile and fun loving personality. The only thing that Larry loved more than the outdoors and his DOT co-workers, the only thing that brought him more joy, was his family. He was deeply devoted to his wife Carolyn. Theirs was a love for the ages, a love so very present in his later years, a love that will last long past today. Larry was incredibly proud to be called Daddy. At the birth of his two sons he actually glowed with delight, he would beam with the pride only a father can show when he talked of his two boys, Jason and Bill. He was meant to be a father. Stern, but loving, words can never explain how much he adored his sons. The only thing that could compete with being a father, was being a grandfather. Three granddaughters gave Larry a new thing to cherish. Makynna, Jayden, and Raelynn made him a Papa and to him it didn't get any better. Yes, Larry Hunt loved life and he had a life to love. Today our hearts are broken, but we also rejoice for having known Larry Hunt, a man who truly lived. We will miss him dearly, but if we sit real still and hear a cat squirrel chirp in the distance, feel the sun on our face, the grass beneath our feet, and the wind on our back, a smile will come upon our face, for in that moment nature speaks to us and Larry is with us again. A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Knauff Funeral Home Chapel in Williston, Florida. A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 starting at 10:00 AM at the Rosemary Hill Cemetery in Bronson, Florida. Cameron Asbell will officiate. Knauff Funeral Home of Williston is honored to serve the Hunt family during their time of transition.
