About Laurie Yackley

Laurie A. Yackley, age 64, of Canby, MN passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Sanford Canby Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Saturday, December 9, 2017 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Canby. Burial will be in the Canby City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. with a 6 p.m. Prayer Service with Rosary to follow on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby. Visitation will resume from 9-10 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the funeral home with a procession to follow to the church. Laurie Allyn (Wiest) Yackley was born January 19, 1953, to William and LaMorne (Benner) Wiest in Canby, Minnesota. She was Baptized and Confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church and attended elementary school at St. Peter's Catholic School. Laurie graduated from Canby High School in 1971. In 1972, she graduated from Canby Area Vocational Technical Institute with a certificate in Business and Secretarial Training. Laurie then worked for the comptroller at Northern States Power in downtown Minneapolis, MN. She returned to Canby, MN, and began working at Canby Public Schools. Laurie worked at the Canby Public School District for 44 years, most recently as the District Office Manager. Laurie married her sweetheart Terry Lee Yackley on June 16, 1973. They were blessed with two daughters – Jennifer and Melanie. Laurie loved spending time with her family, and frequently traveled to the Cities to spend time with her daughters. She enjoyed crocheting, visiting with friends, shopping, reading, and spending time with her dog, Emma. Laurie was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, and she was an active member of the Canby Community, giving freely of her time, talent, and treasure. Laurie is survived by her husband, Terry Yackley of Canby, MN; daughters, Jennifer Yackley (Ryan Evjen) of Minnetonka, MN, and Melanie Yackley (Blake German) of Golden Valley, MN; mother, LaMorne Wiest of Canby, MN; sister, Joni Wiest (Jack Painter) of Boyd, MN; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Ramona (Yackley) Hennen of Mission Viejo, CA, Dean (Janet) Yackley of Fergus Falls, MN, and Jim Yackley of Montevideo, MN; and her nieces and nephew. Laurie is preceded in death by her father, William Wiest and sister-in-law, Ann Yackley; and brother-in-law, Dennis Hennen. Laurie was an extraordinary woman - a courageous, strong, talented, sassy, brilliant, independent, wise, spiritual, loving, compassionate, sweet, generous, thoughtful, beautiful, witty, wife, mother, daughter, and friend. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
