About L. Sharpe
L.J. Sharpe was 88 years old when he passed away at the Bonifay Nursing Home and Rehab Center. He was the son of the late Latt and Beatrice (Rooks) Sharpe. He was retired from Southern Culvert in St. Petersburg. He graduated from Auburndale High School in 1940 and was a member of the High School Citizens Military Training Camp. He also was a Mason. He attended the University of Florida in Gainesville. He, his wife and son were recipients of the National Endowment for Water and Conservation Award in 1988, and were the first to receive this award in the state of Florida. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served during WWII. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bonifay and New Zion Baptist Church in Bonifay. He was founder of the Auburndale Civitian Club and founder of the Floatation Device for water skiing. He and his wife moved to Bonifay in 1973. He was preceded in death by his father Latt Sharpe; mother, Beatrice Sharpe Johnson; stepfather, Horace Johnsonp; son, Thomas Lee Sharpe; 1 sister, one niece and a nephew. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Zelda Simmons Sharpe of Bonifay, 3 sons and a daughter in law, Larry Joel and Deanna Sharpe of Okeechobee, Sam S. Sharpe of Temple, Ga., and Robert Lorin Sharpe of Bonifay; 1 granddaughter, one grandson and a great- granddaughter. Graveside services were held July 10th in Auburndale Cemetery with arrangements by Kersey Funeral Home of Auburndale.
