Accused killer laughs in court MADERA (AP) A Madera man accused of killing his girlfriend with a hammer turned to the victim's son in court and staned laughing. Forest Gray Jr. continued to laugh as the family of Kimberly Pettus-Purvis shouted at him, approached him and then stormed out of the courtroom. Gray pleaded innocent to charges of murder with two special circumstances during his arraignment at Madera County Superior Court. He was being held without bail. Gray, who was arrested during a traffic stop Saturday near Visalia, confessed to Madera police later that day that he had bludgeoned his girlfriend with a hammer in their apartment. Gray, 38, also confessed to the 1992 beating deaths of a Rancho Cordova couple, saying he had killed a man he wanted to buy cocaine from, then killed the man's wife, according to authorities. Sacramento County Sheriffs detectives were seeking a warrant for Grays arrest in the June 19, 1992 deaths of Reginald Neil Hunter, 23, and his wife, Angela Smith-Hunter, 24.
