About Kathryn Windham
Author, Radio Personality. Best known for her collections of Southern ghost stories, she began her career as a pioneering female journalist for two Alabama newspapers in Montgomery and Birmingham and later garnered acclaim as author of over two dozen books on the American South, including history, ghost tales, cookbooks, and multiple memoirs. Her collected supernatural tales led to her selection as a regular speaker at the National Storytelling Festival in Tennessee. She followed with two years as a commentator on National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered.” She was inducted into the Alabama Academy of Honor, having been nominated by novelist Harper Lee. She was the subject of a 2004 documentary film, “Kathyrn: The Story of a Teller.” The Kathryn Tucker Windham Museum is located in her hometown of Thomasville. Her final book, “She: The Old Woman Who Took Over My Life,” was published posthumously.
