About Katherine Oakes
SALAMANCA - Mrs. Katherine Oakes, 91, died Thursday morning (April 30, 2015) at her home. Born Feb. 6, 1924, in DuBois, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Theodore and Mary Cheabro Blehar. She was married Aug. 6, 1947, to Mr. Paul Oakes, who survives. Mrs. Oakes was employed as a machine operator at Highland Plastics in Salamanca prior to her retirement. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish and the former St. Patrick's Church. She loved her family and taking care of her grandchildren. Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Linda Monk of Cortland and Paula Jean (John) Fargo of Alexandria, Va.; two sons, Dennis Oakes of Salamanca and Michael (Cindy Wilder) Oakes of Salamanca; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Atkins of Salamanca; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Cathy Oakes; a grandson, Jason Monk; six brothers, Ted Blehar, Joseph Blehar, Stephen Blehar, John Blehar, Stanley Blehar and Jack Blehar; four sisters, Stella Vesneske, Pauline Duzen, Mary Bergamon and Dorothy Milligan. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, at the convenience of the family.
