About June Haynes
June Ypres Odom Haynes, 89, of Oak Ridge, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017 at her home. She was born June 18, 1927 in Bean Station, TN, the daughter of Hiram and Beula Wright Odom. Mrs. Haynes was employed by Union Carbide, Oak Ridge National Laboratories during the Manhattan Project as a Q-clearance courier and delivered documents by 3 wheeled- bicycle throughout the plant. She was a long-time member of First United Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Haynes enjoyed aviation and was a licensed pilot. She loved animals and was often involved in animal rescue. Mrs. Haynes greatly enjoyed being outside and working in her yard and with her flowers, creating an amazing flower garden. She enjoyed nature in general, particularly birdwatching. She also had a passion for interior decorating and was very creative and talented in matching colors, fabrics and design. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Edwin Haynes in 2005; and by sisters, Imogene Bly and Ruth Brooks. She is survived by children, Joel Haynes of Oak Ridge, Melissa Haynes of Duluth, GA and Howard Haynes of Knoxville; sister, May Hale of Knoxville; Grandchildren, Sara Coble of Knoxville and Steven Haynes of Bristol and 5 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loyal feline companions, Skinny and Big and her canine pal, Sassy. Family and friends will meet for a graveside service on Saturday, June 10, 2017, 1 PM at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Rev. Sharon Youngs officiating. The family asks that memorials be made in her name to the Oak Ridge Humane Society.
