Joseph A Anderson

Joseph A. Anderson Sr. Age 78 of Smyrna, DE died at home Friday, April 5, 2002. Mr. Anderson was born February 22, 1924 in Blackbird, DE to the late William F. and Susie Watson Anderson. He was the superintendent for Continental Block Company in New Castle, DE for 33 years, and most recently worked for Daisy Construction Company, also of New Castle, DE. Mr. Anderson was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving with the combat engineers and was involved in the D-Day Invasion. He was one of the first to cross the Remagan Bridge over the Rhine River, enabling the allied forces to enter mainland Germany. He was a life member of VFW Post #8801 and the American Legion David C. Harrison Post #14. Mr. Anderson enjoyed shooting pool. He was descended from the early Swedish settler, Anders Joransson and his Anderson family of New Castle County, and was a forefather member of the Swedish Colonial Society in Philadelphia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Corene Cle-ments Anderson, and 5 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Lawrence A. and Janet Anderson of Smyrna, DE, Joseph A. Anderson Jr., all of Smyrna, DE; 1 brother, David R. Anderson of Newark, DE, and 3 grandsons, Eric S. and Brian L. Anderson, both of Clayton, Delaware and Marc J. Anderson of Smyrna, DE; 2 great grandchildren; and his companion of 13 years, Priscilla Gibbons. There will be a funeral service 11 am Tuesday, April 9, 2002 in the FARIES FUNERAL CHA-PEL, 29 South Main Street, Smyrna, DE, where friends may call 1 hour before the service. Burial will be in the Delaware City Cemetery in Delaware City, DE.
