About John Sosnowy
John H. Sosnowy SUGAR LAND - John H. Sosnowy, 79, of Sugar Land died Saturday in Sugar Land. Services are 2 p.m. Monday at St. Philip Lutheran Church, 9745 Bissonet, in Houston. The Rev. Douglas Barnett will officiate. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Monday at Galveston County Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Walter Dube will officiate. Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. today at Garmany-Carden Funeral Home, 419 Present, Missouri City. Born Sept. 30, 1910, in Galveston, Mr. Sosnowy was a retail merchant for Firestone. He was a member of St. Philip Lutheran Church in Sugar Land, and a former member of the board of elders at the church. He was a former president of the Galveston Kiwanis Club, Outstanding Young Man in Galveston 1946-1947, a member of the Texas City school board for six years, and president of the Texas City school board for two years. Survivors include his wife, Stella Sosnowy of Sugar Land; son, John K. Sosnowy of Cameron; daughters, Jane Ami of Arvada, Colo., and Jean Gardner of Sugar Land; brothers, Karl Sosnowy of Galveston, and Dr. Joseph Sosnowy of Texas City; sister, Mena Bornemann of Algonquin, Ill.; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials can be sent to St. Philip Lutheran Church. Galveston Daily News January 28, 1990
