About John Pace
(Published in Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 16, 2012) John B. Pace Sr., 80, of Amarillo died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012. Service will be at 11:15 a.m. Saturday in Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Vurn C. Martin, pastor, officiating and Dr. E.D. Field Jr. of Dallas as eulogist. Burial will be in Memory Garden Cemetery. Arrangements are by Golden Gate Mortuary 1416 N. Hughes St. Mr. Pace was born April 5, 1932, in Strong, Ark., to Vernon and Isabella Reynolds Kendrix. He attended Garden High School in Strong. He was employed with Smelter, Asarco and, most recently, the owner of Pace Roofing Co. He served in the Army from Feb. 24, 1953, until February 1955. At an early age, he united with Ebenezer Baptist Church and recently was a member of Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Lillian Pace of Amarillo; a son, the Rev. John Pace Jr. and wife Cheryl of Amarillo; a sister, Ruby Faye Morrison of Garland; a brother, William Bowman of Amarillo; a nephew, Minister Edward Hewitt and wife Debra; two grandsons, Dexter Pace and Thaddeus Pace, both of Amarillo; five granddaughters; and a great-grandson. Viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today at the mortuary.
