Born July 6, 1930 in Monroe, he was the second son of Jerome G. and Agatha Laboe. Jack grew up in Monroe and, from his earliest days, had an avid love of sports and music. He was a member of the first graduating class of Monroe Catholic Central, graduating in 1948. In high school, Jack excelled at athletics, especially football, for which he was inducted into the St. Mary Catholic Central Athletic Hall of Fame. Catholic Central/SMCC and Catholic education remained a passion throughout his life. Jack attended the University of Notre Dame for undergraduate studies and was a member of the class of 1952, where he attained his Bachelor of Science degree. He attended Loyola University School of Dentistry in Chicago, Illinois where he earned a D.D.S. in 1955. Jack entered the United States Navy and served as Dental Officer on a troop transport in the post-Korean conflict era 1955-1957 in the South Pacific. During this time, in 1956 he married Joanne Reardon in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Upon honorable discharge, he began his general dentistry practice and settled in Monroe in 1957. He practiced dentistry for 32 years serving the people of Monroe, retiring in 1989. Throughout Jack's life, four predominant themes were love of his wife and family, faith, music, and all things Notre Dame. He sang with the Notre Dame Glee Club and he was a vocalist and director in the St. Mary Church choir for several years. But his favorite musical moments involved being surrounded by members of the entire Laboe family, playing the piano and filling their home with music. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joanne R. Laboe (Reardon). Daughters: Jeanne (Jeff) Berton of North Royalton, Ohio; Michelle Laboe (Steven Garbarino) of Grosse Pointe, Michigan; Therese (Robert) McMillan of Monroe; Andrea (Dr. Kevin) Hess of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Mary (Bart) Fleming of Monroe; and Dr. Jacqueline (John) Garda of Southlake, Texas. Grandchildren: Tyler and Rachel Berton; Alex, Stephanie and Erin Garbarino; Gabriel, Bridget, Clare, Joseph, Kateri and Molly McMillan; Anthony, Armand, Andrew and Kristiana Hess; Matthew, Megan, Mitchell and Margaret Fleming; Jack, Daniel, James and Patrick Garda. Brothers: Thomas (Marylin) Laboe of Monroe; Mark (Anne) Laboe of Monroe; and Michael "Pudge" Laboe of Denver, Colorado. Sister: Marie Wyllie of Salem, Oregon. His daughter, Colette Marie, his parents and brother Jerome Laboe, preceded him in death. Friends and family may visit from 2 – 8 p.m. Friday at Rupp Funeral Home where a Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. He will lie instate at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church where Mass of the Resurrection celebrating his life will begin at 2 p.m. His nephew, Rev. Timothy Laboe and Rev. Marc Gawronski, pastor of St. Mary's Church will concelebrate. Cremation will follow in accordance with his wishes. His remains will be laid to rest next to his daughter at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Central High School, St. Mary Church, or Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
