John Alan Cornelius

Dr. John Alan Cornelius, 63, of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, formerly of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, passed away Monday, October 3, 2011, after a brief illness. Born in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania on February 28, 1948 he was the son of the late Raymond A. and Sara E. Cornelius. John graduated in 1966 from Loyalsock High School. He continued his education at The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in English, a Master of Education degree in English and a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration. He began his career as an English teacher at the Williamsport School of Commerce, a school founded by his parents in 1955, and Jersey Shore Senior High School. He later became a vice principal at Jersey Shore Junior High School and Jersey Shore High School. He continued his career as an assistant principal at Hatboro-Horsham High School, retiring in July of 2006. Since his retirement he has served as an interim assistant principal at William Tennent High School and Lower Merion High School. For the past five years he has pursued his interest in real estate as an agent with Century 21 Lansdale. John's other passions included Penn State football, sports-especially the Eagles and Phillies, classic cars, books, and his family. He was a past president of the Williamsport Jaycees and the Williamsport Lions Club. Surviving is his loving family, including his wife of 40 years, Kathleen Page Cornelius. He is also survived by his daughter, Nicole Lohmeyer and her husband, William; his son, Shawn Cornelius and his fiancé, Maria Piergallini; his daughter, Paige Cornelius; two granddaughters Kiersten and Karissa Lohmeyer; his sister, Barbara Doebler; and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service to be held Saturday, October 8, at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 West Main Street in Lansdale. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family following the service.
