About Jim Burton
Major League Baseball Player. He will probably be best remembered for yielding the go-ahead run during Game 7 of the 1975 World Series. He attended Rochester High School in Michigan and excelled in football and basketball, in addition to baseball. During his collegiate years at the University of Michigan, he distinguished himself, as he earned All-American status from the Sporting News. Selected by the Boston Red Sox during the 1st round of the 1971 Amateur Draft, he marked his Major League debut on June 10, 1975. He pitched brilliantly during that season and produced a 2.89 ERA in 29 games, as he contributed to the Red Sox capturing of the American League Pennant. The lefty topped all other regular Boston relievers in the statistic of ERA that season. He appeared in 2 games during the 1975 World Series. In game seven, Burton began the top of the 9th inning by walking Ken Griffey, Sr, and followed by two outs, he walked Pete Rose. Burton then gave up a bloop single to Joe Morgan which resulted in Griffey scoring the winning run and securing the series for the Reds. After retiring from baseball, he established his own printing company.
