Janet L Burns

Janet L. (Fissell) Burns, age 95, of Mount Gilead, passed away at her home, Friday, September 23, 2022. On February 8, 1927, Janet was born at home in Morrow County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Edgar Morris and Verna Inez (Sellers) Fissell. She graduated from Edison High School in the Class of 1945. Janet married the love of her life, Carroll M. Burns on October 19, 1947, in the parsonage of Kirkpatrick United Methodist Church. Janet and Carroll loved to travel and enjoyed spending time in their camper as a V.I.P. at the State Lakes Campgrounds in Mount Gilead and at Lake Erie. They cherished 65 wonderful years together before he preceded her in death on October 22, 2012. Janet worked in receiving at North Electric in Galion, from where she retired in 1982. A woman of faith, Janet was a longtime member of Edison United Methodist Church where she enjoyed quilting for others and helping with the dinners and other activities. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 97 Auxiliary and the 47th Rainbow Veterans Division. Janet was a very active woman and liked being outside working on her lawn, in her flower gardens and actually enjoyed pulling weeds. She went to Seniors on Center two days a week to play cards and always looked forward to senior day at the Morrow County Fair. Extremely competitive in nature, Janet took playing card and board games very seriously. She also liked reading mystery novels, watching mystery shows and doing puzzles. She often relaxed by sitting on the back deck, visiting with others. Janet loved spending time with her family and always looked forward to them bringing meals over to share with her. She had quite a sweet tooth and enjoyed her sweets and coffee at dinner time. Janet will be remembered as a wonderful, giving, kind-hearted woman. She had a great sense of humor and was always fun to be around. Left to cherish Janet's memory are three children: Sheila Pagani of Galion, Gene Burns of Johnsville, Vicky (Deo) Ault of Caledonia; eleven grandchildren: Michelle (Kevin) Maley, Lisa (Marty) Kohls, Tia (Cindy) Pagani, Ginger (Mike) Schwaigert, Jeremy (Carrie) Burns, Kellie (Josh) Evans, Melissa (Jason) Radel, Andrea Ault, Shanna (David) Smith, Cory High, and Ryan (Darci) High; 25 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; one step great grandchild and one step great-great grandchild; and son-in-law, Bud High. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly High; a granddaughter, Kristin Burns; one great grandson, Alex Cooper; son-in-law, John Pagani; and daughter-in-law, Margie Burns. Services to honor and celebrate Janet's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 30, 2022, at Rivercliff Cemetery in Mount Gilead, with Pastor Sandra Stover officiating.
