About J Young

NIBLEY, UTAH: J. Chloy Young, 47, died peacefully in his sleep at his parents home in Nibley on Monday, July 21, 2003 after enduring a very frustrating 10 year battle with the insidious Lou Gehrig Disease. Chloy was born September 12, 1955 in Logan, Utah a son of Joe and Yvonne Bird Young. He received his education in the Cache County Schools and graduated from Sky View High School. He worked at the Wurlitzer Piano factory until they closed. He then worked for Weathershield until the time of his affliction. Chloy was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoor enthusiast and was very sports minded. In his early years his summers were spent in the local softball leagues, both as a player and coach. His interests revolved around the bowling and dart leagues. He was a very avid Aggie and Jazz fan. In his later years his passion turned to catch and release fly-fishing. Most evenings he could be found on the local stream and impoundments and tying his own flies until the wee hours of the morning. His hunting was highlighted by drawing a once in a life time moose permit, after the onset of his disease. With a lot of friends, he was able to take a large bull in the Logan Canyon that earned him a spot in the Boone and Crockett record book. There are many people we want to thank for all their support throughout this ordeal, many family members, friends and neighbors, who have been very supportive. We want to give a very special thanks to two hospice volunteers, Tammy Moore and Stephanie Dickson, who gave so selflessly of their time and expertise to make Chloys horrible journey a little more bearable, and to Lori Erickson who so graciously came to the house to cut Chloys hair and trim his beard. Also a special thanks to his cousin, Debbie Mendez who kept his funny bone working by sending him funny cards. We also want to thank all the folks at IHC Hospice, the nurses, aids, the chaplain and the administrators, their cheerful friendly attitude, along with their expertise was a godsend to all of us, and to the folks at options for independence all their help and support was really appreciated. Thanks to Dr. Bromberg and all of his ALS staff at the University of Utah Medical Center, they made our frequent trips down there very enlightening. Chloy is survived by his parents, a sister, Leslie of Logan and a niece, Casey. Chloy was a good son, a good brother, a good uncle a good friend to many people. All of us will miss Chloy. He was preceded in death by a brother, Casey, his grandparents and many aunts and uncles and cousins. Funeral services will beheld Saturday at 12:00 pm in the Allen-Hall Mortuary , 34 E. Center. Friends may call at the mortuary Friday evening from 6-8 pm and on Saturday from 10:30 - 11:30 am. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
