About J Payne
J Lenard was born in Gallup, New Mexico but moved to Holbrook, Arizona as an infant with his parents. While in Holbrook, his father and Uncle Gerald purchased land and built a camp ground that later was made into a motel. It was reported to be the second motel ever built on U.S. Highway 66. Several years later he added on a small grocery store in connection with the motel. When J Lenard was about 7 or 8 - sometime around 1948, his father moved the family to Cortez, Colorado where he spent the rest of his life. J graduated from MCHS and shortly thereafter, he joined the United States Army. Upon returning home to Cortez he met and married Linda Jean Boyd. They were the parents of three children, Patricia Ann, Bradley Arnold, and Mary Kathleen Payne. Later they divorced and on June 4, 1968, he married Wilma "Mae" Nichols. They shared 33 years of marriage until he passed away. J was a member of the NRA and Cortez Rifle and Pistol Club and an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish.
