Isabelle M Hughes

BROCKTON----Isabelle M. "Bette" Hughes, 86, a resident of Brockton for the past 30 years, passed away on March 16, 2024 at home under the care of her family. She was the wife of the late James F. Hughes. Born in Stoughton, a daughter of the late Silvino and Hilda Isabelle (Ornellas) Almeida, she was raised in Easton and was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School. Bette began her working career at New England Telephone and as an office worker for the former JO Dean Oil Company. She then left the working industry to raise her children. After, Bette took a position with the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Brockton where she worked as a program assistant for 32 years. After her retirement she was a volunteer at the VA Medical Center up until recently. Bette enjoyed traveling, knitting ,and reading but mostly treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchild. Bette was not bound by time but was a spirit unconfined, carving her legacy through adventures across the globe, from the mystic pyramids of Egypt to the icy landscapes of Iceland, and to the historical ruins of Greece. Her family cherished the holidays, wrapped warmly in the love she knitted into every mitten, hat, scarf, tangible mementos of her affection and care. Bette's life testament to faith and love, deeply rooted in Christianity, her spirituality was the compass by which she navigated life's trials and triumphs. It was this faith that painted her world with hope and illuminated the path for those fortunate to journey alongside her She is survived by her children, Timothy McNamara of Easton, Susan Guest and her husband Timothy of Sandwich and Jill Newman of Taunton; two brothers, Richard Almeida and his wife Betty Lou of Maryland and Donald Almeida and his wife Katherine of Easton; 7 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was also the mother of the late Jack McNamara and William McNamara and sister of the late Salvino Almeida Jr. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited the funeral on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. from Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 605 Washington Street (Rte.138) Easton, followed by a funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Easton, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Easton. Visiting hours on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in Isabelle's memory may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
