Ian Jay Welch

Ian Jay Welch, 35, of Brandenburg, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014. Ian was born June 14, 1979 at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, England. Ian was a 1997 graduate of Central Hardin High School in Elizabethtown, KY, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky and his Masters from Spalding University. He taught math at Western Early College High School in Louisville, KY and had taught at Liberty High School in Louisville and Nelson County High School. He was a National Board Certified Teachers candidate. His daughters were his life. In his spare time he was an avid video gamer and reader of science fiction and fantasy and he enjoyed watching Anime Cartoons. He was also a member of the Brandenburg United Methodist Church. His wife Criste Lee Cates Welch and grandparents, Gerald J. and Grace A. Baker Schneider preceded him in death. He is survived by 2 daughters, Sarahann Elizabeth and Grace Lee Welch; parents, William “Pierce” and Katherine Marie Mroczka Welch, III of Elizabethtown; sisters, Kathy Michelle (Timothy) Hill of Dallas, TX; Stephanie Kristina (Robert) Johnson of Bellflower; CA and Annelyse Rose Welch of Elizabethtown; brothers, Aaron Lee (Karla) Welch of Louisville; Michael Patrick (Christina) Welch of Ft. Benning, GA; and William “Liam” Pierce Welch, IV of Elizabethtown; grandparents, William “Bill” Pierce and Billy Anna “B.A.” Welch, Jr. of Denver, CO and Henry and Delphine Krist Mroczka of Martinez, GA; mother and father-in-law, Ed and Pat Cates of Brandenburg; biological father, Gerald J. Schneider of Tucson, AZ, 3 half-brothers and 10 nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 1 P.M. EDT at the Brandenburg United Methodist Church with burial to follow in St. James Cemetery in Elizabethtown, KY.
