Helen J Yakubowski

Helen J. Yakubowski, 91, of 2187 Prospect Road, Washington Boro, formerly of Wrightsville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Wednesday, December 11th at St. Anne's Retirement Community, where she resided for the past five months. She was the wife of the late John Yakubowski, who preceded her in death in 1977. Born in Salisbury, CT, she was the daughter of the late Anton and Antonia Schovanek Zlata. Helen was a longtime and dedicated member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Columbia, where she served as church sexton for many years. Known to her family and friends as Mom, Gram and "GiGi," she enjoyed cooking for her family, especially those inspired by her Czechoslovakian heritage; crossword puzzles and word search. In her earlier days, she enjoyed traveling with her best friend, the late Millie Feltenberger. She was a homemaker and caring mother for all her life and her comfort and wisdom will be deeply missed by her family. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of St. Anne's Retirement Community and Hospice and Community Care for all their support, kindness and care shown to them and to their mother. Helen is survived by her children, Pattye wife of the late Abram G. Barley, with whom she resided for the past 33 years; John G. Yakubowski married to Mary, Wrightsville; George T. Yakubowski married to Teresa, Wrightsville; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Lillian Yakubowski, Torringtin, CT and Francis Zalata, Salisbury, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Peter Catholic Church, 121 S. Second St., Columbia, PA 17512 on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 11:00AM with the Rev. Dominic M. DiBiccaro, Celebrant. Rite of Interment and Burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Wrightsville, PA. At the Helen's request there will be no public viewing. Kindly omit flowers.
