Geraldine Winona Zak

In loving memory of Geraldine W. Zak (Geri), born September 30, 1918, in Brookings, Oregon. She died June 19, 2012 at the age of 93 years and 9 months. Geri was a miracle baby weighing 2 pounds. Her first bed was a cigar box. She was one of thousands of "Rosie the Riveters", working in the dry docks during World War II as a welder. She worked many years for A. Paladini in Fields Landing, California. For 27 years she took loving care of her husband, who was partially paralyzed with an aneurysm. She was always happy doing for others. Geri was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Zak, and son Jim McNamara. She was survived by sons, Joe McNamara (Pat) of Redding, CA, Fred Zak of Sultan, Washington; and daughter Debbie Alexander Fike (Jim) of McKinleyville. She was the loving Grandmother of Mike McNamara, Jolene McNamara, Jonell Fetcko, Missy Lemley, April Hicks, Ben Wentworth, Charles Wentworth; and loving Great Grandmother of 17. Geri was a very active woman who still drove her own car and had recently received a new 5-year California Drivers License. She was never idle, and crocheted every night and made sure that each of her family had beautiful hand-made items. She was very accomplished in ceramics and won many ribbons at local fairs, qualifying for the State Fair. She chose not to enter. She never forgot a birthday. She will be greatly missed by her family, and her friend and neighbor of over 65 years, Mrs. Evelyn bishop; her sister-in- law Helen England; and her favorite waitress Kelly at Sizzler. There will be a Graveside Service on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 11:00 am at Ocean View Cemetery in the Veterans Garden.
