THE RECORD HERALD Waynesboro, Pa. Friday, March 26, 1999 FRANCIS L. OAKS; 75, of 5l5 Main St, Marion, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, 1999, in his home. He had been in failing health since Nov., 1998, and critically ill since Feb l, 1999. Born Feb. 2, 1924, in Middleburg, Md., he was the son of the late Lesher and Mary (Stouffer) Oaks. He spent his early life in Leitersburg. He served as a technician fifth grade in Battery B of the 399th Field Artillery Battalion, U.S. Army, in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central European Theater of Operations during World War II. He and his wife, Lucille M. (Hollingshead) Oaks, were married June 23, 1948, in Hagerstown. They lived at their present residence since 1952. Mr. Oaks was first employed as a riveter at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, retiring on Feb. 28, 1986, with 35 years of service. He also worked for Wilbur Burger as a painter for many years. Mr. Oaks was a Protestant. He was also a life member of the Marion Volunteer Fire Co. and Harry D Zeigler Post 6319 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Greencastle. He also was a member of Frank Carbaugh Post 373 American Legion of Greencastle and AMVETS Post 224 of Chambersburg. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Barbara A. Carbaugh and Betty M. Faust, both of Waynesboro, and Tammy S. Shindle of Big Cove Tannery; two sons, Michael F Oaks of Greencastle and Thomas R. Oaks of Marion; 10 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; four step-greatgrandchildreh; a sister, Carol J. Spencer of Waynesboro; two brothers, Howard .E. Oaks of Waynesboro and Jerrold L. Oaks of Clear Spring, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Oaks was preceded in death by a brother. Glen S Oaks. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Miller-Grove Funeral Home, Greencastle, with the Rev Gayle L. Ruble officiating. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
