About Francis Gabbamonte
The Rev. Fr. Francis A. Gabbamonte, 83, of 720 Seminole Dr., Meadville, died at his home Tuesday, May 14, 1991. Born in New York. N.Y., April 17, 1908, he was a son of Donato and Concetta (Luicci) Gabbamonte. He was ordained by the late Archbishop John Mark Gannon on May 21. 1936. He served as assistant pastor at St. Paul's Parish in Erie from 1936 to 1944 when he was released for chaplaincy service in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He returned to Erie in June 1946 and was assigned as chaplain at St. Mary's Home. In 1950 while continuing in that post, he was given a part-time assignment at St. Paul's Parish in Erie, where he was appointed director of property and buildings. He continued in those posts till May 1951 when he was named pastor of St. Timothy's Parish in Curwensville. In July 1968 he was named pastor of St. Mary's Parish in Meadville until his retirement July 31,1983. He is survived by three sisters, Millie Petrone of Brick Town, N.J., Rose Cunningham of Brille, N.J., and Connie Felita of Point Pleasant, N.J.; two brothers, James Gabbamonte of Yonkers, N.Y., and Daniel Gabbamonte of Babylon, N.Y. He was preceded in death by one brother Salvatore Gabbamonte. He will lie in state at St. Mary's Church, Water Street, Meadville, today from 3 to 9 p.m. where parish prayers will be celebrated at 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Church on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with the Most Rev. Donald W. Troutman S.G.D.-S.S.L., Bishop of Erie Diocese; and con-celebrated with a priest of the Erie Diocese. Interment will take place at St. Brigid Cemetery, Meadville.
