About Floyd Bowen

Floyd B. Floyd B. Bowen Jr., 79, of Austin, Texas passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, December 15, 2018. He was born in Mulberry, Florida on December 30, 1938. In his youth, Floyd was active in Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Columbia Military Academy in 1956. Floyd graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Business Administration in 1963 and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He also served in the US Army 4th Armor Division in Germany for two years active duty and three years of active reserves. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged. Floyd retired from the Exxon Corporation in 2000 after a 36-year career in sales, marketing management, and government affairs. He ended his career as Texas Government Affairs Manager in Austin with responsibility for coordinating Exxon's lobbying activities before the Texas Legislature. In addition, he participated in community activities and served on the Board of Directors of the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce and the Board of the East Texas Chamber of Commerce. He also was a member of the Austin Lyric Opera Board of Trustees and a member of the Board of Directors of the Austin Symphony. Floyd was an active member in the Methodist church while living in Tallahassee. He held various leadership positions in Killearn Methodist Church. He was Lay Leader for the Tallahassee District and was a delegate to the Florida Annual Conference in Lakeland. He attended Riverbend Church in Austin, Texas. Floyd was an avid reader, loved golf and playing bridge. He and his wife traveled extensively and loved being with his family when they gathered for family reunions. He enjoyed spending time at his home in Austin, Texas as well as their home in the beautiful North Carolina Mountains. Floyd is survived by his wife of 57 years, and three children. He is also survived by his grandchildren; and a great-grand. Floyd is also survived by his siblings. A memorial service will be held on January 7, 2019, at 11 a.m. in the Smith Family Chapel at Riverbend Church 4214 N. Capital of Texas Highway, Austin, Texas 78746. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be held in the family plot in Lakeland, Florida. Published by Austin American-Statesman on Dec. 23, 2018.
