About Everett Nagelhout

Everett Nagelhout, 95, of Hudson, Florida, entered his heavenly home on Monday, June 4, 2018, at Consulate Health Care of Bayonet Point in Hudson, FL. A tribute to his life will conclude the early morning service this Sunday, June 10 at 8:30 a.m., at Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church in Hudson, FL. Interment at a graveside service for family and friends in Edgerton, MN and will be announced later this summer. Everett was born in Bemis, South Dakota on March 6, 1923, the son of the late Gretchen and John Nagelhout. He graduated from Bemis High School in 1941 and served a tour of duty in the Navy at the San Diego Amphibious Naval Base during WWII. During his tour of duty, he married the love of his life, Lillian Baker, of Edgerton, Minnesota, on February 16, 1945 in the Naval base chapel. Upon completion of his tour of duty with the U.S. Navy, they relocated to Chicago, IL and in 1948 Ev and Lil moved to Edgerton, MN, where he built Ev’s Service Station and worked for the City of Edgerton. Both of their children, Linda Nagelhout Skorczewski (deceased) and Lee Nagelhout were born and raised in the Edgerton community and took many a bus ride with their Dad as the bus driver. In 1978, Ev and Lil moved to Minneota, where Ev was City Clerk and Administrator and Lil was the Activities Director at the Minneota Health Care Center. During those years, Ev was respected as a man of integrity; a God and family loving community leader, who had a knack to fix just about anything. He loved to take family camping trips and restored many automobiles. Ev retired in 1992 and soon moved to New Port Richey, FL, during the winter months, while spending summers with family in Minnesota. Eventually, New Port Richey became their permanent home until last year when they became residents at Atria Senior Living in Hudson, FL. They lovingly worked beside each other for more than 73 years. Ev was an active member of Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church in Hudson, FL and as an avid wood carver and member of the Toy Makers Wood Carving Club, his masterful creations grace many homes and his wooden cars have been delivered to many hospitalized children in the region. Though a man of few words, his heart for the hurting was evidenced in small hand-held bird carvings which ministered God’s tender care during difficult seasons of life. Ev and Lil were also members of a camping group. He will be lovingly remembered as a kind and gentle soul with a loving and generous heart; always giving to others. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 73 years, Lillian Nagelhout, in January of this year; his lovely daughter, Linda Nagelhout Skorczewski, in 2001; siblings Hank Nagelhout in 2000, and Marvin Nagelhout in the 1970s. He leaves a rich legacy through precious memories to be cherished by his brother Junior Nagelhout of Enid, OK; devoted son, Lee (Nancy) Nagelhout; his son-in-law, Jim (Diana) Skorczewski; adoring grandchildren, Dr. James Skorczewski and Adrienne (Carlos Jr.) Almeida; his precious great-granddaughter, Lillian Almeida; and his dear sister-in-law, Tena Winkelhorst. Ev and Lil have been lovingly ushered by the angels into their eternal home where we will join them at God’s appointed time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
