About Ethel Waldman
Ethel was graduated from Far Rockaway High School in 1931, and worked as an executive secretary for Gerstein Brothers and then Picker X-Ray. After her marriage she worked on a periodic basis as husband Sam's nurse on Prospect Place in Brooklyn, and later on President Street. Heavily involved in Sam's medical practice, she was well-known by all patients, and was frequently referred to as "Mrs. Doctor." When Ethel was living with Benjamin and Louis Waldman on Prospect Place, she helped run the household, cooking and insuring things were in order. On President Street she frequently hosted dinner parties for family and friends. In the 1960's Ethel served as an officer of the Jennie Levine League for Cancer Research, an organization dedicated to the memory of a close friend. After Sam's death in 1988, Ethel remained at their home in Floral Park, New York, often visiting her children and their families in nearby Connecticut, as well as hosting them and other friends for frequent visits and well-prepared meals. In January, 2004, Ethel moved into an assisted living apartment in Connecticut. This put her closer to her two children, allowing for many more visits. Ethel passed away on her husband Sam's birthday in 2007. Her burial was three days later, allowing time for her family to arrive from various locations throughout the country.
