About Ernest Daggett

Ernest Otto Daggett, 82 years, of Bryan, passed away at 9:40 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance. Ernie was born August 10, 1928 in Coldspring, Tennessee to the late Levi and Janie (Dodson) Daggett. A WWII Navy veteran, he married Mary Caroline King on January 6, 1945. Ernie worked as an independent electrical contractor in the state of Indiana. He then moved to Bryan and worked for Bryan Water and Light, where he retired as the Electrical Superintendant on September 30, 1994. At that time Ernie and his family were honored by the renaming of the Wilson Street Substation to the Daggett Substation. He was a member of the Bryan Moose Lodge #1064, Bryan Eagles Aerie #2233, Bryan American Legion Post 284 and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for over 60 years. He was honored by the American Public Power Association and was an honorary member of American Municipal Power of Ohio and the Ohio Municipal Electrical Association. Ernest loved being with his family and was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ernest was a beloved husband, devoted father and loving grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary C. Daggett of Bryan; three sons, E. Leon (Doreen – deceased) Daggett of Kansas City, Kansas, Larry I. (Andrea) Daggett of Bryan and Charles R. (Melody) Daggett of Harlan, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Michelle Meller, David Daggett, Steve Burleson, Jennifer Morris, Matt Daggett, Kristina Daggett, Alicia Daggett, Amber Bruot and Michelle Mowery; 13 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Ernest was preceded in death by two sons, Paul Edwin and John Kenneth Daggett, three brothers, Edward, Dewey and Alfred Daggett and three sisters, Loretta Moore, Bessie Davis and Lily Brown. Funeral services for Ernest Otto Daggett will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Bryan Missionary Alliance Church 220 Fountain Grove Drive, Bryan with Pastor Jack McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow in Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan, with Military Graveside Rites provided by the Bryan American Legion Post 284. Visitation for Ernest will be held Thursday, June 16, 2011 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home & Crematory, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Bryan Missionary Alliance Church, 220 Fountain Grove Drive, Bryan, Ohio 43506 or to the charity of the donor's choice. The family would like to acknowledge and thank great-grandson Logan Meller for taking extra care and special concern for his great-grandfather over the past year.
