About Elsie Candito
Elsie B. Candito, 79, of Centerville, formerly of Hingham and Rockland, died on Sunday December 2, 2001, in the Pavillion Nursing Home in Hyannis after a short illness. The daughter of the late James and Ann D. Phillips Smith, she was born in West Tisbury on Martha's Vineyard on July 28, 1922. She was raised and educated in Rockland and lived in Hingham for many years before moving to Centerville 2 years ago. Mrs. Candito worked at the Hingham Ammunition Depot during WWII and later worked at Talbot's in Hingham until her retirement. She enjoyed Knitting, Puzzles, coordinating various family outings and she loved animals. The wife of the late Philip A. Candito, she is survived by three sons, James P. Candito and his wife, Barbara of Bridgewater, Joseph A. Candito and his wife Vera, of Brockton and Paul W. Candito and his wife, Stephanie of Hyannis, five grandchildren, David, Stephen, Jennifer, Kevin, Zachary and the late Michelle Candito, a sister, Betty Landis of Hanson and she was the sister of the late Alan J. Smith. Funeral Service on Wednesday, December 5, 2001, at 10:00am in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street, Rte 53, Hanover. Internment in St. Paul's Cemetery in Hingham. Visiting hours on Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Foundation of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02175 or to All Paws Rescue, Rockland, MA 02370.
