Eloise Abbott

Eloise Abbott, 75, of 400 Highway 18, Clear Lake, died Monday, Dec. 28, 2009 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. A funeral service was held for Eloise Thursday, Dec. 31, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, with the Rev. Larry Day officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Eloise Abbott Memorial Fund. Eloise Abbott was born on Dec. 17, 1934 to Leslie and Elizabeth Hockensmith in Boone, Iowa. Eloise spent her childhood years in Boone and graduated from the Boone High School amongst the class of 1953. On Jan. 13, 1953 she was united in marriage to Donald B. Abbott in Arkansas. To this union four children were born. Eloise and Donald eventually moved to Mason City, where Eloise began to take classes at North Iowa Area Community College. In 1970 Eloise graduated from NIACC as a licensed practitioner nurse. She truly loved being a nurse. She began her career working for the Washington Nursing Home following her graduation in 1970. In 1973 Eloise began working for the Heritage Care Center. Eloise also worked at the I.O.O.F. Home from 1976 until her retirement. Eloise held many hobbies, including playing Bingo, dancing at the V.F.W., and shopping. Eloise also loved traveling with her friends, especially going on cruises! But perhaps her greatest love was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Eloise is survived by her three sons, Donald (Kathy) Abbott, Vacaville, Calif., David (Liz) Abbott, Clear Lake and Dennis (Sheral) Abbott, Clear Lake; grandchildren, Leslie Jo Hoffman, Janesville, Minn., Melissa Ann Abbott, Houston, Texas, Rocky Reed Abbott, Independence, Iowa, Kenyon Clark Abbott, Hemet, Calif., Jason William Abbott, Hemet, Harley David Abbott, Clear Lake, Michael Nathan Davidson, Oceanside, Calif., Billy Neal Davidson, Clear Lake, Heidi Elizabeth Davidson, Clear Lake, Benjamin Michael Davidson, Clear Lake, Hailey Ann Davidson, Clear Lake, Skye Lee Lovik, Clear Lake, Zachary Allen Abbott, Cedar Falls, Iowa, Alicia Jo Abbott, Clear Lake, Todd Harris, Vacaville,Calif., Scott Harris, Vacaville, and Melanie Harris, Vacaville; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley Jo Hoffman, Heather Lee Hoffman and Briar Elizabeth Lovik. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; a daughter, Denise Lovik; a grandson, Baby Boy Abbott; and a brother, Dean Hockensmith. Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, was in charge of arrangements.
