Obit Elliott (Buck) Abels, 74, died Monday at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg. Funeral services were held yesterday at Shaver and Son Funeral Home. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Parkersburg. Born in Wilding, he was a prominent area musician and had been active in the Wildlife Federation. He was retired from FMC Division in 1953 and attended the United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Faith Bachtel Abels; two daughters, Alice Stratton of Indiana, Pa., and Lois Ann Pike of Hartford, Conn.; and four grandchildren. ( Clipping of 50th wedding anniv. on back of obituary card ) Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Buck Abels 7-21-72 Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Buck Abels of 1702 - 36th Street, Parkersburg, W. Va., will be guests of honor at an open house to be held Sunday afternoon July 30, 1972, between the hours of 2:00 and 4:30 p.m., at the Worthington Golf Club at 3414 Roseland Ave., Parkersburg. The honorees' two daughters, Ann Abels Pike of Hartford, Conn., and Kathryn Abels Stratton of Indiana, Pa., are hostesses for the affair which is an early observance of the couple's fiftieth wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Abels were married December 23, 1922, but the daughters are planning the summer-time celebration in hopes that many of their parents' old friends and acquaintances can be present. Mrs. Abels was the former Faith Bachtel, daughter of the Late Dr. and Mrs. R.M. Bachtel of Ravenswood. She is an active member of St. Andrews Church and worked many years in the Emerson School PTA at Parkersburg. Mr. and Mrs. Abels have resided in the same house on 36th Street for 40 years. Mrs. Abels retired from American Viscose Company after 25 years of service. His hobby is fiddling and “Buck Abels and His Orchestra” played for round and square dances throughout the Parkersburg area for many years. In addition to being an accomplished fiddler,he is an expert marksman with conventional guns and muzzleloaders, and a fine hunter. He was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Abels of Wilding. His brothers and sisters are George, Fred, Ed, and Everett, and Mrs. Laura Rankin, all in the Parkersburg area, and Roe Abels, Rena Patterson and Nannie Patterson of the Wilding and New Era sections. There are four granddaughters, Lucinda Ann and Laura Alice Pike, children of the Rev. and Mrs. Morris Pike, and Bonnie Ann and Holly Faith Stratton, children of the Rev. and Mrs. Vincent Stratton. The daughters want all old friends to feel invited and in lieu of gifts suggest that notes or cards be sent since, in their words, “your remembrance of something that happened in your mutual living these many years would be the most precious gift to them”.
