Edward G. Munson

On September 19, 2023, Edward G. Munson, 82, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his loving family, after fighting a courageous battle with Leukemia. Born in Syracuse, NY, Ed was the son of the late Gordon and Mildred Munson. After graduating from West Genesee High School, he moved to Lansing where he met his wife, Dorothy Haring. They were married in 1961. In addition to his wife of 61 years, Ed is survived by four children, Robert, William (Susan), Jonathan (Sheri), and Judy (Doyle); his brother, Thomas (Laurel); six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Ed moved to Lansing to work on the Munson family farm where he was introduced to Dorothy. He took over running Dorothy's family dairy farm where they raised Holsteins and allowed each kid to raise a breed of their own. After farming, he started painting for Duthie Painting and later retired at 67 from MCK Building Assoc. Ed enjoyed working in his garden and building flowerbeds and more flowerbeds and more flowerbeds. He was known for growing Yucca plants and gladiolus, which he enjoyed sharing with all his favorite ladies. He had a love of rocks and built all the rock walls around the property, and he was very proud of his carpentry and woodworking skills. He made or fixed several things for family and friends. Each of the kids were extremely grateful to have their dad's carpentry experience as he helped build or rebuild their homes and anything else they came up with. Ed was an avid Cornell hockey fan and was honored to spend years moving the goal net during the ice cleaning. He also spent years as an assistant coach with the Cornell Girls Hockey team. The family would like to thank the doctor, nurses and staff of Cayuga Oncology for their loving support during these past years. There will be a private family burial at Groton Rural Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to a Party for Ed on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Munson's, 788 Buck Road, Groton, NY.
