About Earnest Peña
Born April 18, 1928, Perfecto Ernesto Peña, was the first born son of Atanacio and Ruberta (Flores) Peña in Brackettville, Texas. However, he went by Earnest F. Peña throughout his adult life. He served in the U.S. Marines for a brief time in WWII, having falsified his age to enlist well before he was 18. He later joined the Army, 101st Airborne, and was a ranger in the 3rd company engineer Corps. He served a total of 5 tours in Korea and Vietnam, earning the rank of 1st Sgt during that time. Earnest's family called him, "Neto." He married Alicia Torres from Del Rio, TX on December 28, 1952. They had 4 children together. Sadly, after surviving combat in three wars, Earnest Peña "Sr ." was killed in a car accident while stationed in Panama. Earnest was an American hero, a devoted husband and wonderful father. He was loved by many including all eleven of his and Alicia's grandchildren who never got to meet him in his lifetime.
