About Douglas Zahn

Douglas Zahn November 02, 1959 - April 27, 2021 Douglas Dale Zahn, 61, passed away on April 27, 2021. Doug was born November 2, 1959, in Minot, ND. He grew up in Minot, and attended his schooling at Longfellow and Ryan Catholic Schools. Doug played baseball in grade school, and took part in swimming, basketball, and football, in his high school years, graduating in 1978. He attended UND in the fall of 1978, and received a chemical engineering degree, graduating in 1982. He also was licensed as a Professional Engineer. Doug was employed in 1982 with ABB Combustion Engineering/Alstom Power. He met Holly Backlund, the love of his life, in 1979, one summer evening, and they went with each other for six years. On August 3, 1985, Doug married Holly, at St. Johns, the Apostle Catholic Church. They traveled the first part of the year with his company and later settled in Cincinnati, OH., for several years. Doug, later on decided with Holly, to take on a new career opportunity and accepted a position with TLT Babcock, in Cleveland, OH., where they made their new residence. After several years in Cleveland, Doug was offered a new career opportunity with Babcock Power, which he would be able to get back to his and Holly's home state of North Dakota. In 2012, they moved to Fargo, where Doug became a senior vice president for the Northwestern region of the United States and parts of Canada, in service and sales. Doug loved golfing anytime, anywhere. He was a golf course reviewer and rated golf courses, throughout the U.S. That was his way of relaxing and having fun. Doug was a member of Firestone Golf Course, which he loved. Doug and Holly, spent many days and evenings on the course, relaxing and enjoying others company. He was also an avid Minnesota Vikings and Fighting Sioux Hockey fan. Doug's passion in his life, was to spend his time with his wife, Holly, and his Alaskan Malamutes. He loved going for walks and hikes with his family on the beaches, mountains, skiing, or simply just sitting by the fire at their home. Doug lived a very passionate, full, and happy life. He would want all of those who loved him, to do the same. Doug was the son of Dale and Therese Zahn, who preceded him in death. Doug is survived by his wife of 35 years, Holly; and his two Alaskan Malamutes, Summer and Gunner. Doug is also survived by his sisters; brothers; sisters-in-law; and his nieces and nephews.
