Dorothy Lynn Hewett Hobbs

Dorothy Hewett Hobbs, 89, of Wilmington, daughter of the late Paul Green Mills and Vera Catherine Mills, passed away on Sunday July 11th. She was born August 12, 1931 in Duplin County, North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her first husband William Vernon Hewett and her second husband Ronald "Scooter" Hobbs. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her sister Lee Cottle and her brother Jack Mills. Early in her first marriage Dorothy worked at James Walker Hospital and New Hanover County Health Department. Later she and Vernon established their own janitorial business which they successfully operated locally for many years. Dorothy was a long-time and devoted member of Cape Fear Presbyterian Church. She and Vernon also enjoyed fishing and volunteering with the Wilmington Shrine Club. For many years friends and family enjoyed fish fries on Dot and Vernon's back porch at their house on Morningside Drive. In addition to being a great cook, Dorothy was also an amazing seamstress who made a lot of hers and Cathy's clothes. Dorothy and Scooter enjoyed travelling together, particularly their trips to Las Vegas and Atlantic City where they could often be seen playing slot machines in the casinos. Survivors are her son Bill Hewett (wife Janet) and daughter Cathy Moore (husband Terry); grandchildren Heath Hewett, Brett Hewett, Jason Moore (wife Katelyn), Sarah Whitaker (husband Jarrod), and Alex Moore; and great-grandchildren Mason and Logan Hewett. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 14th from 2-4 pm at the Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road. A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, July 15th at 11 am at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Liberty Care Hospice or the Shriners Children Hospital.
