About Donald Quast

Funeral services for Donald Helmuth Quast, age 64 of Lester Prairie, were held Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with Rev. Gerald Schwanke officiating. The organist was Kendall Mielke, and Chuck Thiel and Bev Bahrke sang a duet, "One Day At A Time." Congregational hymns were "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "I Am But A Stranger Here." Casketbearers were Don Hoof, Bill Kocourek, Mark Rickert, Kim Rickert, Brian Duncan and Mike Foust. Visitation was held Monday evening at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Interment was in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Lester Prairie. Donald H. Quast was born the son of Adolph and Lena (Radtke) Quast Feb. 20, 1933 in Bergen Township, Minn. He was baptized in 1933 at St. Peter Lutheran Church and later confirmed there on April 14, 1946 by the Reverend A. Vomhof. He attended Lester Prairie School until the ninth grade. Donald lived in Lester Prairie until he entered the Air Force and there he served his country from 1953- 1957. He then moved to Silver Lake where he owned and operated a gas station until 1969. Donald was married to Janet Dostal in 1960 and the couple divorced in 1968. On Nov. 28, 1970, Donald was united in marriage to Sandra Batdorf at St. Peter Lutheran Church in a service officiated by the Reverend Bode. The couple made their home in Mound until 1977 when they returned to Lester Prairie. Donald was a lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. In his spare time, Don had many different hobbies including hunting small game, fishing, watching football and wrestling on TV, umping softball and officiating volleyball. On Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997 Donald Helmuth Quast entered eternal rest at the Hutchinson Hospital at the age of 64 years and 10 months. He is survived by children: Kolleen Rettig and husband Paul of Parkland, Fla., Koreen Lemke and husband Jamie of Hutchinson, Keith Quast and wife Kathryn of Colfax, Wisc., Donna Johnson and husband Aaron of Hutchinson, and Dana Quast and significant other, Steve Raduenz, of Winsted. Further surviving him are his grandchildren: Bradley Rettig, Jacob Rettig, Jackelyn Rettig, Miranda Lemke, Paige Lemke, Kelcey Quast and Mercedes Johnson; uncle Reinhardt Quast of Hutchinson; brother-in-law, Harvey Rickert of Felton, Minn.; step-father, John Dietzel; step-brother Wallner Dietzel and wife Marlys of Anoka, and also nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Sandra, grandson Isaac Rettig, sister Janet Rickert, grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.
