Donald Alan Essenberg

Donald Alan Essenberg, 68, of Summerfield, NC, passed away at his home, on September 8, 2023. Don, was a devoted husband to his wife, Caryl Ann Essenberg, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage. They were high school sweethearts and had been in love for over 53 years. Don's faith in the Lord Jesus and his love for Caryl and his family were the cornerstones of his life. Don deeply cherished his children and took immense joy in being Opa to his four grandchildren. He was a loving and dedicated family man. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Esssenberg, his mother Marilyn Essenberg and his brother, Ronald Essenberg. Don graduated with honors from Appalachian State University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Business degree. His career in the furniture industry began shortly before graduation. Starting as a furniture sales representative, Don quickly moved into management positions. Throughout his career, he held various senior executive positions, starting in Sales Management and then various Vice President roles, before eventually retiring as President/CEO. The furniture industry afforded many travels throughout the US and Asia during his career. He placed great value on all the relationships he made over the years. Don loved his work, the people he worked with, his travels and the furniture industry. As member of Oak Ridge Methodist Church, Don taught a Men's Bible study and enjoyed worshiping with his family. He was an active participant in every church home, serving in leadership and teaching roles throughout his life. He valued the time he spent studying and teaching the Bible. Beyond his professional and faith commitments, Don had a range of hobbies. He enjoyed Bible study, avidly reading books, scuba diving, watching movies, and savoring a good cigar. Time with the grandchildren was always treasured. The family has planned a private burial for Don. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 10:30 am at Oak Ridge Methodist Church, located at 2424 Oak Ridge Road in Oak Ridge, NC 27310-9723. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Men's Bible Study at Oak Ridge Methodist Church, located at 2424 Oak Ridge Road, Oak Ridge, NC 27310-9723.
