About Donald Babcock
Donald E. Babcock, 73, of the 100 block of S. Parliament Drive, died Nov. 11, 2003, in a local hospital. Cmdr. Babcock had retired from the U.S. Navy serving as commanding officer of the USS Mullinix (DD-944) and as captain of the ocean going Tug USS Tatnuck (ATA-195). He served in the Vietnam War receiving the Bronze Star and served in the Korean War. Cmdr. Babcock was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, The Republican Party, National Association Fleet Tug Sailors and past president of the Midtown Kiwanis Club. He was the former owner of Babcock Realty. Survivors include his wife, Camille M. Babcock; two sons, Donald Babcock and his wife, Vivian of Springfield, Va. and Thomas Babcock of Hampton, Va.; two grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth and Donald Scott Babcock; a brother, Richard Babcock of West Lafayette, Ohio; and an uncle, Manches Neff of Sun City, Ariz. A service of remembrance will be celebrated today at 7 p.m. by Father Edward Richardson at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kempsville Fire & Rescue, P.O. Box 62345, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. The Virginian Pilot, page B9, November 13, 2003
