David Victor Pearson

David Victor Pearson, 93, of Dennis, Cape Cod, MA went home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2023. David was born on March 20, 1930, in New Bedford, MA, son of the late David and Anna Pearson, both of whom immigrated to America from Sweden. He is survived by his children, John Pearson, Annie (Dale) Nasman, Katrin Keating, Sally Pearson, Judith (David) Flemming, Matthew (Beth) Pearson, Rachel (Jeff) Cooper, and Claudia (Rob) Georgenes; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his cousin-in-law Carl Karlsson . He is predeceased by his wife, Dorothy C. Pearson, and his brothers Donald Pearson and Robert Pearson. David and Dorothy met in New Bedford, married in September 1952, and shared a deep love for each other for 63 years. They lived in Portsmouth, NH, as well as Aberdeen, MD before they settled in Groton, CT where they raised their eight children. He graduated from New Bedford High School and attended the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth receiving his bachelor's degree in 1952 before being drafted into the Army. David served in the Army for two years and then began working for General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division in Groton, CT as a mechanical engineer. He worked for Electric Boat for 28 ½ years and ended his career as head of the Design Department. While working at Electric Boat David invented an emergency release valve used on submarines that was later patented by General Dynamics. When David retired in 1985 he and Dorothy moved to Cape Cod where he worked part time at the South Yarmouth Hardware store and later worked with his good friend Robert Wood, "Woody", doing handyman jobs. David eventually started his own handyman business and volunteered his services at Elder Services of Cape Cod. David was a loving husband and father and a caring friend and neighbor. He believed that if you put God first, then family, then country, everything would work out. His interests included clock repair, house projects, and gardening. He loved to spend summers at Cape Cod before moving there, enjoying the beaches with family and kayaking with his daughter Katrin. David loved his family and loved taking care of them. He helped with a project of some sort at every one of his children's homes. He loved having family visit and spending time with them, and also loved meeting his friends for weekly coffee outings. He enjoyed his time with his children going to dinner at the Lost Dog Pub or Royal II restaurant. He had a special friendship with his dear friend Loring Johnson, and they spent many hours in deep conversation about family, sports and their shared faith. David was devoted to his faith in God. He read the Our Daily Bread devotional faithfully each morning and then spent time in prayer. He attended and was actively involved in Groton Heights Baptist Church in Groton, CT, for many years, and was a member of Brewster Baptist Church in Brewster, MA. David was a strong, caring and kind person. It was his family's privilege to know and love him. He will be deeply missed. Thank you to all who have helped the family through this difficult time.
