About David Dollarhide

David November 12, 1935 - Dollarhide David E. Dollarhide was born on November 12, 1935, in Corvallis, Oregon, to Marjory and Al (Albert Richard) Dollarhide. He was the fourth child and third son among seven siblings. David's father, a Pentecostal evangelist, led the family to move frequently, resulting in David attending three schools during his senior year of high school. Despite the challenges of relocation, David often joked about his journey from last chair to first chair trombone due to one such move. In August 1956, David married Virginia (Ginger) Olson. They relocated to Seattle and eventually settled in Mukilteo, where David embarked on a fulfilling career in education after earning a degree in Civics from the University of Washington in 1960. His teaching career began at Olympic View Jr. High School, coinciding with the birth of his first daughter, Crystal (Guderian), in 1960, followed by the birth of their second daughter, Wenda, in May 1962. In the mid-70s, the couple expanded their family through the adoption of David Michael (Mike) and Meredith Ann (Cotton). David possessed remarkable musical talent, with perfect pitch and proficiency in bass singing, directing church choirs, and playing the trombone. He also showcased his artistic abilities through Escher-style paintings, scenic wood collages, and miniature sailboats. Throughout his 35-year tenure with the Mukilteo School District, David taught history, social studies, and cartography, and served as the leader of the Humanities Department at Mariner High School until his retirement in 1995. Beyond his dedication to education, David excelled in sports, coaching tennis and leading the Mariner High School tennis team to multiple 2nd place state awards. He also demonstrated exceptional mechanical aptitude, undertaking various construction projects during summers and teaching his children the same skills. In retirement, David's craftsmanship garnered widespread recognition, leading to a thriving business based on word-of-mouth referrals. Together with his wife Ginger, he designed and built a three-story house with two turrets and an elevator on Lake Ketchum in 1995. David is survived by his brother Bill Dollarhide, daughters Crystal Guderian (Jeff), Wenda Zonnefeld (Rick), and Meredith Cotton (Robert). Tragically, his son Michael Dollarhide was lost in an avalanche in 2001. David and Ginger remained inseparable until their passing, they are now reunited in heaven, exploring new destinations together. There will be a double memorial service for both David and also his wife Virginia "Ginger" Dollarhide who passed a few weeks before David.' The joint Memorial Service for both David and Ginger Dollarhide will take place at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the Woodinville Community Church, 17110 140th Ave NE Woodinville, WA 98072
