Darrell Frank Abernethy News & Observer, The (Raleigh, NC) - Sunday, July 31, 2011 Carrboro NC United States Carrboro Darrell Frank Abernethy, 53, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at his residence. Born on January 6, 1958 in Charlotte, he was the son of Joseph Reid Abernethy, Jr. and the late Rebecca Martin Abernethy. Mr. Abernethy received his bachelor's degree in Psychology from UNC Chapel Hill and had been working on his Master's Degree. He was an U.S. Army veteran where he was stationed in Germany for two years. Mr. Abernethy volunteered with Crisis Assistance in Chapel Hill. In addition to his father, Mr. Abernethy is survived by three sisters, Joey Jordan, of Davidson, Becky Dewese and husband Terry, of Huntersville, Beverly Brewer and husband Butch, of Charlotte; two brothers, Donnie Blackmon, of Charlotte, Joe Abernethy, III and wife Luella, of Iron Station; his Jack Russell, "Buddy"; numerous nieces and nephews and numerous friends in Chapel Hill area. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 29th at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, 1520 W Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte, NC with Rev. Steve Bass, of Sunset Road Baptist Church, officiating. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Family and friends are invited to sign the online register book at www.mcewenderitachapel.com The Derita Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service, Charlotte, NC is in charge of arrangements.
