Sasser, 49, prominent Goldsboro insurance agent, died about 9am today of a self-inflicted shotgun wound at his home, 1606 Evergreen Ave. Sheriff Bill Adams and Coroner I. T. Seymour ruled the death a suicide. According to Sheriff Adams, Sasser was found about 9:15 in an upstairs bedroom by his father. He was shot in the head with a 16 guage shotgun. His wife had left for work about 30 minutes earlier. He had been in poor health for several months. Owner and operator of Sasser Insurance Agency at 123 N. John St., he was associated with O'Berry and Lewis for several years prior to forming his own agency. He was active in the Wayne County Sunday School Association and a past exalted ruler of the Goldsboro Elks Lodge. He was a Mason and a Shriner, having served as president, commander, and high priest of the Shrine Club and past master pf the Pikeville Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church. He was also active politically, but never ran for office. Survivors include his wife, the former Virginia Bartlett; three children, Tommy of Durham, Mrs. Susan Dean of Fuquay-Varina, and Jimmie of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Sasser of Patetown; one brother, George C. (Buck) Sasser of Patetown; and five grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Sasser, 49, Goldsboro insurance agent, were to be held today at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph Ingram, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Clifton Rice. Burial was to be in Wayne Memorial Park with Masonis honors. He died yesterday.
