About Clarence Wachter
Clarence Preboye Wachter, 89, of North Seton Avenue, Emmitsburg, Md., died Thursday, July 28, at the Hanover Hall Nursing Home. Born Aug. 21, 1904, in Emmitsburg, where he was a lifelong resident, he was the son of the late Charles F. and Grace E. (Sanders) Wachter, and the husband of the late Miriam (Geesaman) Wachter, who died Jan. 29, 1982. Mr. Wachter was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, and a past commissioner of the town of Emmitsburg. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1860; the Elks Lodge of Waynesboro; the Moose Lodge of Gettysburg; and the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Gettysburg. He was a stationary engineer at St. Joseph's Provincial House for 30 years and had earned the first grade engineer Gold Seal. Survivors include three daughters: Betty Goulden of Emmitsburg; Peggy Hopkins of York; and Nancy Mitchell of Tom's River, N.J.; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister: Mrs. Bertha Myers of Bonneauville.
